This is the tentative cover of the dust jacket of my biography of Albino Luciani, Pope John Paul I. The cover photograph (courtesy of Fondazione Papa Luciani Giovanni Paolo I di Canale d’Agordo) was taken as the pontiff walked in the Vatican gardens. 

The title captures the essence of Luciani’s existence: his entire life was a journey of love. On the day before he died, he spoke movingly in English about love being a journey that we must all make steadfastly, despite the difficulties we encounter along the way in life:

“Love is like a journey…To love God is a wonderful journey, but sometimes it involves sacrifice…Because love is a journey, we must not stop…God wants us to make progress in love.”
